2nd Food Safety Index: Gujarat tops FSSAI’s & Goa first among smaller states The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has released the results of the second State Food Safety Index. This year, among the large states, Gujarat was the top ranking state, followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Among the smaller states, Goa came first followed by Manipur and Meghalaya. Among Union territories Chandigarh, Delhi and Andaman Islands secured top ranks. The FSSAI, however, did not release the data for the said index. This year, FSSAI has categorised the states in three segments of large states, small states and Union territories. The ranking for the year 2018-2019 also included Chandigarh at the top followed by Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These states got distinction in the parameters prescribed by the apex food regulator.
